The son of the late Zindzi Mandela has confirmed that his mother tested positive for Covid-19 on the eve of her death.
Zindzi was rushed to a Johannesburg hospital on Sunday night where she later died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Speaking on SABC on Wednesday night, Zondwa Mandela confirmed the news but said her cause of death was not yet clear.
The family is still awaiting the autopsy results.
“My mother did in fact test positive for Covid-19 on the day of her passing, although this for me doesn’t mean she died of Covid-related complications but just that she tested positive for it,” Zondwa told the public broadcaster.
“There were several other tests done and those tests will give us further information on what could have led to her untimely death.”
