President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address South Africa at 19:00 on Sunday night on the measures put in place to manage the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
South Africa's coronavirus cases have topped 20 000, with the death toll at 407.
Ramaphosa's address follows recent meetings of the Cabinet, the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President's Coordinating Council, which considered the prospects for the country's move from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3 of the national lockdown.
South Africa moved to Alert Level 4 on 1 May, 2020, following five weeks at Alert Level 5.
The President has also been involved in several consultative meetings with the business, labour and community constituencies of the National Economic Development and Labour Council, leaders of political parties represented in Parliament, traditional leaders, the leadership of interfaith communities, the South African Council of Churches, as well as the tourism industry, which is the single largest source of employment in the private sector.
The President’s address will be broadcast live on television and radio and will be streamed live on a range of online platforms.
