KZN man arrested for claiming ex-girlfriend has Covid-19

A man from Phoenix in KwaZulu-Natal has landed himself in major legal trouble for allegedly spreading a fake message that claimed his ex-girlfriend had contracted Covid-19.
Police say the message, which had been widely circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, featured the woman's photo.
The message also claimed that she and her brother had refused treatment and were a danger to society.
National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says the 30-year-old ex-boyfriend has been arrested.
"When the police intelligence they approached the lady concerned, the subject of the WhatsApp messages, it found out that she was negative.
"She then opened a criminal case of in contravention of section 11 (5) of the Regulations Act.”
Naidoo says the suspect is also facing a charge of criminal injuria.
