Gautrain implements coronavirus measures
Gautrain has moved to implement measures to help contain and avoid the spread of coronavirus.
This follows the confirmation that a passenger who visited Bombela Operating Company offices in Midrand tested positive for Covid-19.
Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager says all individuals who were in close contact with him have been identified and have been advised to self-isolate.
“He travelled to South Africa from France and is currently in self-isolation.”
Nayager says trains, stations and buses are being cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.
“The Gautrain system has been cleaned with alcohol-based disinfectants and this cleaning is ongoing. This includes trains, buses and stations. Touch points such as handrails, door handles and station washrooms are regularly cleaned.”
Nayager adds that the cleaning is conducted overnight to minimize the risk of infections.
“We support President Cyril Ramaphosa's instruction to ensure social distancing and to avoid non-essential domestic travel, particularly by air, rail, taxis and bus. Where possible, we encourage our passengers to work from home. This limitation on travel is necessary to help reduce the risk of the spread of the virus.”
