Gauteng’s top cop recovers from Covid-19

Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela is back at work after he tested positive for Covid-19 some two weeks ago.
Mawela spent the past fortnight in self-isolation.
Provincial police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says Mawela went for a test after he came into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.
"Following the news of his diagnosis, the provincial commissioner made his results known to his management team, colleagues, personnel as well as close contacts. The protocols and directives in place to contain and manage Covid-19 within the organisation were immediately followed and implemented.”
The provincial headquarters in Parktown has also been decontaminated.
Mawela says he is in good health and is encouraging all South Africans to exercise greater personal responsibility.
"I also want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all our members who have succumbed to the virus in the past weeks and we could not pay our respects as we would traditionally do conducting official funerals.
‘Their names will never be forgotten. To those who have contracted the virus and are still on the journey to recovery, I wish them a speedy and smooth recovery. Mental strength is key during this journey.”
