EC ‘in the middle of Covid-19 crisis’ – Mabuyane
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has warned that the province has reached it's Covid-19 peak and has pleaded with residents to rather stay at home.
To date, the province has recorded over 38 000 infections and 528 Covid-related deaths.
"We are reaching a point where people will no longer be able to bury their loved ones. We are reaching a point where funerals will only be attended by family members," Mabuyane said at a media briefing on Tuesday.
"We are already receiving complaints that the funeral parlours are overwhelmed, so clearly we are now facing the eye of the storm. We are actually there in the middle of a crisis.”
Mabuyane has pleaded with Eastern Cape residents who have tested positive to come forward and allow themselves to be quarantined at a state facility.
