#CoronavirusinSA Death toll rises to 24
The number of people who lost their lives to COVID-19 in the
country now stands at 24.
Just more than two weeks into the national COVID-19 lockdown, it has also been confirmed that 410 have recovered from the virus.
The latest stats where release by the Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, on Friday afternoon.
The minister also revealed that the number of people who tested positive has increased to 2003, while 73 028 tests have been conducted.
“We also want to convey our appreciation to staff who dedicated their service to caring for all our people. We want to say their efforts to want to help and save our nation will always be appreciated. They are always in our thoughts and prayers.
“We want to appeal to society, in general, to continuously give support to health professionals who are at the forefront of fighting the pandemic,” said Mkhize.
Gauteng province still remains the hardest hit province, with 801 positive cases.
Gauteng has three confirmed deaths and 157 recoveries.
The financial hub of the country is followed by the Western Cape with 541 positive cases, six deaths and 152 recoveries.
KwaZulu-Natal has recorded 412 positive cases, but accounts for half of South Africa’s total deaths – at 12 deaths.
