Coronavirus should ‘enable a new Africa’ - Ramaphosa
South African President and African Union (AU) chairperson, Cyril Ramaphosa believes that the Coronavirus should “enable a new Africa”.
Ramaphosa was speaking at a virtual celebrations of the 57th anniversary of Africa Day on Monday.
“It should enable a new Africans to come to the fore. It should be an Africa of heroic acts and solidarity,” said Ramaphosa.
“An Africa of cross-border collaboration and sharing of knowledge and resources, and Africa that is united by a common goal,” he added.
The Covid-19 Coronavirus, which was first detected on the continent in February, has infected more than 100,000 people on the continent to date and claimed the lives of more than 3,000 individuals.

South Africa has the most confirmed cases on the continent.
As of Sunday, 22 583 people have been confirmed to be infected with the virus with 429 Covid-19 deaths reported in the country.
This number is expected to exponentially increase as the country heads to lockdown level 3 from the beginning of June.
