South African commuters are set to be randomly screened for coronavirus at train stations, bus stations and taxi ranks.
This is one of the measures to combat the rapid spread of the virus in the country after the sharp increase of positive cases to 62.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced several measures that will be implemented to protect millions of people who use public transport on a daily basis.
Mbalula briefed the media in Pretoria on Monday as part of President Cyril Ramaphosa's national command council.

"Prasa will undergo and perform sanitisation on all our trains and social distancing will affect us…in terms of trains and taxis so we have included eduction. Over and above, the random screening will be applied in all taxi ranks and trains, but equally, taxis will be expected to undergo sanitisation."
He said they are engaging everyone in the public transport sector, including taxi association to start implementing the measures.
Mbalula said protection at airlines and airports will also be stepped up.
"All airline or ground handling staff carrying out assisted passenger services are required to use personal equipment, which is referred to as surgical mask and gloves.”
