Application process starts for Covid-19 grant
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has opened the application process for theR350 social relief grant for unemployed South Africans.
SASSA CEO Busiswe Memela and Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu made the announcement in Pretoria on Monday.
"For us to make sure that the service is efficient we are going to have to use technology in far-flung areas. We will have the support of NGO's who will go into those areas in partnership with our regions," said Memela.
South Africans need to be over the age of 18, not receiving any social grant, UIF or a national student financial aid scheme allowance to qualify for the grant.

"We will remain vigilant towards people trying to defraud the system. As we continue to have a situation where our current grant beneficiaries continue to be defrauded. It is very important for us to be responsible and take care of our SASSA cards and not give them to loan sharks," added Memela.
