All correctional facilities to be deep cleaned twice a day - Lamola

Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Ronald Lamola says the country’s correctional services will be deep cleaned twice a day.
This measure has been placed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
Lamola and Police Minister, Bheki Cele briefed the media on Friday on measures to combat COVID-19.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday that there will no visitors allowed at any correctional facility for 30 days.
Lamola says there have no recorded cases or deaths linked to the Coronavirus in any of the country's correctional services.
Lamola says the cleaning of the cells in an integrated plan by various stakeholders.
"With public works, there will be deep cleaning of all the centres almost twice a day or more in some of the cells to avoid any kind of contamination of the cells,” Lamola says.
"This is an integrated structure by the NPA and the correctional services, including presiding officers of the various courts.”

Lamola says his Department is currently in talks with courts to use an audio-visual remand system where possible.
"We are also engaging courts to utilise the Audio-Visual Remand system for postponement of the cases. We have got 46 visual sites across the country,” he says.
"We are also currently looking at measures - if there may be a trial - how we can enable the accused or the offenders can consult with their lawyers through some f the technological platforms."
Lamola says all regulations are subject to constant change depending on how the virus develops.
"It will be reviewed after 30 days and looking at the situation on whether we can strengthen, relax, or make changes.”
