198 new Covid-19 deaths, but recovery rate climbs to 73%

South Africa has recorded 6 670 new coronavirus cases over the latest 24-hour period.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 559 858.
The country's death toll now stands at 10 408, after 198 new deaths were reported.
Of the latest deaths, 80 are from the Eastern Cape, 63 from KwaZulu Natal, 32 from Gauteng and 23 from the Western Cape.

The recovery rate now stands at 73 percent, with 411 147 people who have recovered from coronavirus.

The country's economic hub, which is still the the epicentre of South Africa's pandemic, recorded 23 coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday. Spokesperson for the provincial Health Department Kwara Kekana says the decline in admission is encouraging. "The highest number of hospital admissions was recorded in the middle of July, with the highest recorded daily new admission over 320 as of 16 July.
