Car torched during N12 protests
A car was set alight during a service delivery protest in Slovo informal settlement in Johannesburg on Monday.
It's unclear why the group was demonstrating.
Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the N12 has been closed to traffic at the Golden Highway.
"The N12 freeway is blockaded off to traffic in both directions between Klipspruit Valley Road and Golden Highway. This is due to protest action by residents of Slovo informal settlement. There are reports of a vehicle that has been set alight. The situation is volatile.”
Police were on the scene to monitor the situation.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the N12 if travelling towards Lenasia or heading out of Lenasia.
