Woman killed in Plettenberg Bay shark attack

A 39-year-old woman's body was recovered after a shark attack in Plettenberg Bay off Central Beach.
On Sunday, 25 September 2022, a woman's body was recovered from the water in Plettenberg Bay off Central Beach after a fatal shark attack.
The woman, who is said to be 39 years old, was a tourist from Cape Town. Her husband and child were on the scene during the attack.

CNN reported that this was the second shark attack in this area in the last three months.
SAPS and the NSRI Plettenberg Bay were alerted to the incident at 07:53 on Sunday.
According to The Daily Maverick, Bitou municipality and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) confirmed that this was “very unusual when compared with previous years”.

The beaches are currently closed to the public due to the fatal attack.
